A Composite Dental Filling Can Treat an Active Cavity

Posted .

Having a regularly scheduled dental checkup performed by a dentist like Dr. Sean Ferguson and Dr. Michael Ferguson every six months is essential for detecting and preventing oral health problems. This simple outpatient appointment will effectively clear away bacterial deposits from your teeth, while also identifying any early signs of gum disease and cavities.

If our dentist finds a small active area of tooth decay, we might be able to treat the problem by installing a dental filling. This will require a follow-up appointment where all the compromised tooth enamel will be carefully removed.

If the compromised area of tooth enamel will be visible when you smile we might use a composite dental filling. This is a special type of dental grade plastic that can be easily shaded to perfectly match the adjacent tooth enamel. This will make the dental filling indistinguishable from the rest of healthy tooth.

After shading and applying the composite material we will use a special ultraviolet light to cure it. This will essentially bond the new dental filling in place and restore the tooth’s essential function in your mouth.

If it’s necessary, we might also advise you on any improvements you can make to your daily oral hygiene efforts.
