Be on the Lookout for These Cavity Symptoms

Posted .

Dr. Sean Ferguson treats a lot of patients who come into Ferguson & Associates, DDS with cavities. In many of these cases, the patients were aware they had cavities before their appointment. In other instances, they weren’t so sure. Sometimes it can be difficult to tell if your symptoms indicate you have a cavity.

Because we care about our patients, we’d like to share some common symptoms that indicate you have a cavity and what you should do about them.

Aching Teeth

If you have noticed that a tooth, that over a period of time, has been hurting and also is accompanied by a dull ache and flashes of sharp pain, then you likely have a cavity that needs to be treated. If it has been a while since your last dental cleaning, your cavity may be fairly new and has developed since your last check-up. While it’s likely possible to treat your cavity with a simple filling, it’s important you schedule an appointment quickly before the cavity worsens.

Pain when Biting Down

If you’ve noticed pain in a tooth while you are either eating or chewing, this could be a sign of a cavity. This pain indicates the cavity is small and just developing. Don’t let it develop into a bigger and more painful cavity! Call your dentist to set up an appointment to have it treated.
